The 2000 year old town of Berat is located in southcentral Albania. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful towns of Albania. During this tour you will visit:
The castle of Berat (kala'), it's build on a hill top overlooking Berat. There are three protection walls. Inside the castle there is a residential quarter with characteristic houses, some 8 churches have survived and you can see parts of two mosques.
The Ethnographic Museum, is situated in a typical house of XVIII century. Just looking the interiors is interesting in itself. Inside, living room and kitchen are recreated in two versions, as they were in town and village houses. The small hidden room were women were supposed to stay when guests would come for dinner. Various arte facts and folk costumes are also displayed inside.
The Onufri Museum, named after the most famous Albanian painter of XVI century, is situated inside St.Mary church, builded in 1757 on the site of an older church with the same name. There are a number of old icons and documents of historical value and the interior of the church is very interesting too. There is a beautiful iconostasis carved in wood inside.
The Historic Medieval Center, The complex was build in XV century. There are a mosque, a Helvetian 'teqe' (bektashian religion)
