This tour will give to the visitors the possibility to cross the Western part of the famous Roman road, called VIA EGNATIA, from Durres (Dyrrhachium) to the Ohrid Lake, where they can still find parts of the ruins of this road.
Day 1:
Arrival at “Mother Teresa” Airport. Meeting and greeting by our representative and transfer to the hotel. Overnight in Tirana.
Day 2:
After breakfast departure to Durres( Dyrrhachium) which is the most ancient and one of the most economically important cities of Albania. This is the starting point of the ancient road “VIA EGNATIA”. Being one of the most ancient cities there will be very interesting places to visit: Archeological Museum, Roman Amphitheater, Byzantine city walls etc.
Following the route of the ancient via Egnatia will pass to Peqin, The ancient name of Peqin was Klaudiana and it is thought to be the first stop of the ancient road. On the way to Elbasan, there is a small village named Bradashesh where you can find “Ad Quintum” a well preserved station of the EGNATIA road.
Continuing to Elbasan. The ancient city of Skampa founded in the 1st century A.D. which came into being and developed during the construction of the Egnatia route. The surrounding walls of the town were built in the 4 th century, having 3 entrances and 26 towers. Its Fortress was built during the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I (483 – 565) by which time Skampa had become the seat of Bishop with Cathedral and basilica outside walls.
The city tour of Elbasan includes visits to the Archeological Museum, the ancient Castle in the city center, the Turkish Bathhouse etc.
Overnight at Elbasan.
Day 3:
After breakfast continuing to Pogradec, located near the Ohrid Lake.
The Pogradec district has been inhabited since the period of the late neolith (6000-2000 BC).
Before entering Pogradec, from Qafa e Thanes, close to the village Golik you will find an ancient bridge from the Roman period known as Golik Bridge or Ura e Golikut in Albanian, part of Via Egnatia. This elegant, triple arched bridge is built, as all the bridges from that time.
There are some other bridges like the Bridge of Terziu, bridge in the canyon of Llenga, and Bridge of Nica that testimonies the ancient existence of the civilization in this area.
There are many other ancient interesting sites around this city all yours to discover during this tour.
Only 5 km from Pogradec is the tourist attraction of Drilon. Natural water springs and lush green surroundings make Drilon one of the most beautiful and relaxing spots in Albania. A variety of decorative plants and trees grow here in perfect harmony with the water springs and the characteristic bridges. Hotels and restaurants in the area offer traditional dishes of the Pogradeci cuisine and the fish of the lake, Koran.
Afternoon free and overnight in Pogradec.
Day 4:
After breakfast transfer back to Tirana.
Visit the Castle of Petrela, near Tirana, built during the rule of Byzantine Emper or Justinian I in the VI century A.D. and controlled the Durres-Tirana-Elbasan segment of the Egnatia road.
Lunch at a local restaurant with traditional cuisine.
Afternoon free and overnight in Tirana.
Day 5:
Morning free until your departure time.
Transfer to the Airport and end of our service.
