This journey to the mountainous area begins from the city of Shkodra and leads to Boga, and Theth. The most common activities in this zone, are excursions, mountain climbing, skiing, and. during the summer, camping. After visiting the western part of Alps will turn back to Shkodra and take another direction to the eastern part of Alps passing through Koman Lake, Valbona Valley and Tropoja.

 

Day 1: Departure to Shkodra, the largest city of the North Albania. Very rich in history, Shkodra in one the most ancient cities in Albania. Founded in the IV century B.C., it was the chief town of Illyrian tribe of Labeats and later on during the reign of King Gent the chief centre of the Illyrian state.

The most important monument is the Rozafa castle, since it is related with the existence of the city.

For those who know the legend of Rozafa, the fortress of Shkodra, it's probably clear that on its walls there is the "live-body" of a mother.

After visiting the castle and learning its painful story you will visit the Museum of Ethnography, and the Museum of Atheism- the only one in the word. A short relaxing walk along the Shkodra Lake and lunch in a restaurant that offers the fresh fish cooked in hot brick.

Day 2: The trip to the western Alps begins from the city of Shkodra and leads to the closest stop – 41 km away from Shkodra – the city of Razma, situated on a blackberry hill at the feet of the Veleçik Mountain. Razma stands amid infinite forests of pines and birch trees. There are also many meadows and amazing alpine pastures. The journey to Razma is possible even in the winter when the snow is at its highest level. The road will lead you from Razma to the village of Dedaj and then onto Boga, a village surrounded by the Alps. The Burden of the Balkans. Boga is the perfect place for mountain climbing, skiing, and spelunking. The Cave of Puci is one of the most attractive, situated at 1,087 m above sea level. It is 5 km long and rich in stalactites, stalagmites, and wall veils.

After Boga, you will reach the main tourist centre of the entire area, Thethi, located 70 km from Shkodra. The area is rich in attractive sights like the Cascade of Grunas, 25-30 m high. You will be amazed by the cold-water sources of Okol and the caves "Birrat me rrathë" (“Round Holes”) and "Arapi".

While in Theth you can stay in local hostels with traditional alpine architecture. The characteristic dish of the area is "fërliku" (baked meat) and different plates of trout.

 

Day 3: Early morning will turn back to Shkodra and then will take another direction to go to the eastern Alps, passing through the lake Koman with ferry. The boat trip passes between 1000-1500m-high mountains and through a series of deep gorges and interconnected lakes. Arriving in Fierza and continue the trip bus to Tropoja. Arrive in Bajram Curri, a new town built on the site of the former village of Kolgecaj. It received its present name in 1952 in honour of Bajram Curri, a well known nationalist that lived in the area and was killed in the Dragobia Cave, on the Valbona River.

Day 4: A very nice day to pass to the Valbona Valley, a national park of 8,000 hectares, it is one of the most beautiful natural areas in Albania. Before entering the valley you will find the water source (vrellen) of Shoshan located only 3 km away from Bajram Curri. This karstic source heads to the Valbona River creating an attractive canyon 2-3 m wide and 50 m deep. After entering the valley, you will pass several picturesque villages. The first, with alpine style houses, is called Dragobia, and it is where the valley narrows. Past Dragobia, at the foot of a mountain where the Cerremi stream joins Valbona, there is the famous cave where the national hero Bajram Curri was besieged and killed. The city than took his name. Valbona (or Selimaj) is located 25 km away from the city of Bajram Curri and is the most important inhabited centre of the valley. It is full of traditional houses that create a picturesque view in symmetry with the natural wonders of the valley, which widens again at this point.

After exploring Valbona Valley will continue the trip to Gjakova  Gjakova is a Kosova town with a somewhat combined oriental and modern appearance. The old shopping centre situated near the old mosque and the Grand Dervish Ritual Hall (Tekia e Madhe) is full of quaint old shops and crafts workshops. Overnight in Gjakova.

 

Day 5: After a morning free to explore the Gjakova city, will turn back to Tirana by the same road
